SLJ - What we have learnt in cybersmart

With this activity we have to think about what we have been talking about in class on how to be cyber smart. 
We learned that you are not suppose to put personal information such as phone number,address,last name,where you work or your school,not to accept friend requests from people who you don't know on Facebook , Instagram etc. , not to give people your passwords or anything of that kind. Don't add people that you don't recognize. If someone you don't know messages you on any social media or text messages, do you think you should reply to it or leave it and tell and adult ? The answer is leave it and tell an adult, you never reply to someone you don't know without telling your parent/caregiver.

Here are five rules to follow while sharing pictures and or/ streaming videos online:
1. Be sure to put any personal photos on private settings.
2. Remember that any photo you post is online forever.
3. When you stream videos make sure you aren't following anyone you don't know.
4. Turn your accounts on private so when you post videos/photos etc, you don't get random people liking your posts.
5. Making sure you know who can see and only making sure people you know can see it, if your posting a video or photo with someone in it make sure you have their permission to post that.

Hurumanu - Decomposing and Recycling

Aim: To learn about the rate that different materials decompose.

Hypothesis: I think that...... The Banana would rot first

Materials:

  1.   Banana
  2.   Bread
  3.   Test tubes
  4.   Cardboard
  5.  Styrofoam 
  6.   
  7.     
Steps:
  1.   Get your test tubes and put them in the holder
  2.   Get your ingredients ( Banana, Cardboard, Styrofoam, Bread )
  3. Put your banana in the tube
  4.  Put the cardboard into the tube 
  5.   Put the Styrofoam into the tube
  6.  Put the bread in the tube  


Findings:
  •   The Banana did rot first over the course of the 2 weeks
  •   The cardboard and the Styrofoam did absolutely nothing
  •   The bread was the second most disgusting

Conclusion: In conclusion the Banana did rot first  and the Styrofoam had no effect what so ever, the cardboard was almost the exact same as well, I think the bread went just as bad as the banana but like I said the banana roted first.

AIM: TO LOOK AT CLIMATE CHANGE AND THE GREENHOUSE EFFECT.

The Greenhouse Effect experiment

Materials

  1. Bottles 
  2. Thermometer
  3. Baking soda
  4. Heat lamp

Procedure

  1.  Plug in the heat lamps
  2. Put the heat lamps toward the bottles
  3. Add the water and baking soda mixture to one of the bottles 
  4. Add just water to the second bottle
  5. Put the bung and thermionic in the top
  6. Start recording the time for every 5 minutes

Hurumanu - Wind power


Measuring weather.

Definitions:

  1.  Anemometer:
  2. Beaufort wind scale:

Anemometer

MATERIAL 

  1. 2 chop sticks   
  2. Cello tape  
  3. 4 Glass Cups  
  4.   Pencil
  5. Pin

STEPS

  1.  Cello tape the cups to each end of the sticks 
  2.   Cello tape the sticks together to make a cross
  3.   Pin the cross to the rubber of the pencil
  4.   
  5.   

Group Investigation.

Groups size: 5 
Roles:
  • Timekeeper
  • Counter
  • Recorder
  • Anemometer Manager
  • Wind Manager
  1. Mount the anemometer in a place that has full access to the wind from all directions.
  2. When the time keeper says "Go", the counter in each group will count how many times the marked cup passes them in one minute and write it down.
  3. Repeat the above step four (4) times and record the number of spins on the chart.

Instructions:
  • Go to the measuring place and set up your wind gauge.
  • Make sure everyone in your group is ready to start their roles.
  • Record how many times it spins and record it in the table below.
  • Count the number of spins in 15 seconds.
  • Record it on your chart.

CONCLUSION:  

The wind speed on the field was 20 spins every 15 seconds and was 80 kph and the beaufort scale was 3. The wind on the old j block site was 15 spins every 15 seconds and was 60 kph and the beaufort scale was 2. The wind on the grass hill was 10 spins every 15 seconds and 40 kph and the beaufort scale was 2. The wind on the tennis court was 3 spins per 15 seconds 12 kph and the beaufort scale was 1.

Definitions

In hurumanu this week we have been looking at different types of weather and how much damage they cause. We have watched a video today compilation to see what type of damge this weather does. We have wrote a definition for each one of these.  

1. Anemometer - an instrument for measuring the speed of the wind, or of any current of gas.
2. Beaufort -The Beaufort scale /ˈboʊfərt/ is an empirical measure that relates wind speed to observed conditions at sea or on land. Its full name is the Beaufort wind force scale.
3. Typhoona tropical storm in the region of the Indian or western Pacific oceans.
4. Monsoona seasonal prevailing wind in the region of South and SE Asia, blowing from the south-west between May and September and bringing rain (the wet monsoon ), or from the north-east between October and April (the dry monsoon ).

My Investigation on climate change


    ACIDIFICATION

    What is happening to the oceans?
    It is absorbing the C20 which is carbon dioxide as a result its making more acid.

    What does this do to shellfish?
    They won't be able to grow so the fish won't be as big and they won't be as big for us to eat

    HOW DOES CLIMATE CHANGE CONTRIBUTE TO THE ACIDIFICATION OF OUR OCEANS? 

    Ocean acidification refers to decreasing levels of pH in the ocean, which makes the sea more acidic. It is the long-term change in seawater chemistry due to the absorption of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Roughly 30 percent of human-made CO2 is absorbed by the oceans.

    DEFINITION: Trees being cut down

    What are trees used for?
    To help us breath and provide oxygen and keeps the water cycle going and running smoothly.

    HOW DOES DEFORESTATION AFFECT THE CLIMATE?

    It stops the water cycle from happening which means that weird things happen like more floods and etc. It can stop oxygen from getting released from the trees because the trees will stop absorbing the carbon dioxide. Trees collect water when it rains and if people cut down the trees the trees can't collect the water and they can't create oxygen.

    ICE CAP MELT

    DEFINITION: When the water is melting

    If all the ice melted what would happen?  If all the water in the antarctic and everywhere else our water levels will rise to 230ft tall and land area would shrink significantly. There is 13 million cubic meters. If all of it were to melt the entire the while earth would feel the impact. Central china would completely disappear beneath the ocean in total 1-2 billion people could die/ displaced because of this. 


    HOW DOES ICE CAP MELT AFFECT CLIMATE CHANGE? Sea levels would rise and 1-2 billion people alongside central china could be displaced.

    WATER VAPOR

    DEFINITION: Water in its gaseous state, especially in the atmosphere and at a temperature below the boiling point. Water vapor in the atmosphere serves as the raw material for cloud and rain formation.

    HOW DOES  WATER VAPOR AND EVAPORATION CONTRIBUTE TO CLIMATE CHANGE?
