Whakatauki meanings- Home room

                                                             Whakatauki

This week in home room the class has been working on a DLO to show a whakatauki (This play's a large role in Maori culture. They are used as a reference point in speeches and also as guidelines spoken to others day by day. We had to create some kind of DLO and I created a google drawing. We had to add images/image that related to the meaning of our whakatauki.

Open steak sandwich's and Rice paper spring rolls

                                 Open steak sandwich's

 Ingredients:

Steak, Bread roll, lettuce, tomato, cheese, sauce.

How we made it:

We cut every thing up (diced the vegetables) and sliced the steak we then we soaked the state in a dressing and cooked it. We then put it inside the bun and added the vegetables.

Rate:

Personally I can't rate it as I didn't try it, but I don't like steak however it might have been really good for people who do eat steak.

Opinions:

Once again I can't really give a proper opinion on this sandwich because I didn't try it :)

                    Rice paper spring rolls

Ingredients:

Rice paper, cucumber, carrot, red capsicum, noodles.

How we made it:

We cut every thing up (diced the vegetables), next we soaked the rice paper in some warm water (only for like 10 seconds) we then added everything into the rice paper roll and folded it.

Rate:

Personally I didn't wanna try it after everyone wasn't really liking it, it kinda just put me off even wanting to try it. However the rice paper didn't smell very and the texture of the rice paper was rubbery and disgusting. The noodles didn't feel like a very nice texture either.

Opinions:

I feel like if I was to ever do this again I would add something more to it such as chicken, a different sauce, etc.

~ I have added an image from google to give you an idea of what it looks like or give a similar idea ~

Business studies - Budgeting guide

                        Budgeting guide task

This week in business studies we have the decision between a budgeting guide task or a screen castify explaining, I clearly chose the budgeting guide. I'v decided to present my work on a slide show, here it is:

In conclusion this was a pretty easy task, but it was quite hard to not repeat myself because I didn't come up with much to write about. What do you think I could do better next time?

Niuean and Tokelua language week - Music

 Creative writing - Te vaka

The task I chose for this language week was to Listen to one of the artists below,  then write a piece of creative writing describing what image the music brings to mind. Write at least 100 words. I have written at least 100 words.

The music I listened to was a part of the Tokelua culture. This music was uplifting and I had many ideas of what this reminded me of. The first thing it reminded me of was being somewhere tropical, like Fiji or Hawaii, bright, sunny, like as island or a really sunny beach. It also reminded me of this movie called high school musical, more specifically one part of the movie where they're dancing on the beach. I think this music has a very summery aesthetic to it, it makes me wanna go to the beach and dance. Something else it reminds me of is a shed or shop thing on the beach, kinda like the life guard tower.

Leadership styles

                         Leadership styles

This week and last week we have been looking at leadership styles and different types of it. We had to create a DLO giving 2 examples of each leadership styles and a photo.

Business studies - promotion

  • We have a slide on a big slide show that has our product, company name, and prices on it. Then on the day, we have a big poster with our name and products we have also been telling lost of people about it.
  • We are aiming for teens to young adults, with the patterns they seem younger but the size of the face masks are for men, women, and teens. We are also selling really affordable products they range from $2-$4.
  • We are just trying to get the word out, telling people about it, having posters, making sure its something people are actually going to want.
  • The posters around the school are bright and colourful to attract the eye of our target audience ( young women/teens). The poster on the day will be at our table to make what we are doing obvious.
  • OUrs focuses more on Price and Promotion, we have to prove that our products are good quality, affordable and just making sure that they are worth it.

    Apple sauce muffins - Cooking

                                  Apple sauce muffins

In cooking last week we made apple sauce muffins.I was in a group with Nature, Shontae, and Mya. They were all involved and I think we worked really well together. One thing that was bad about the apple sauce muffins was they were not cooked all the way through partly because we only put it on for less time than needed but mostly because we used apple sauce and not actual apple chunks. I didn't like this food very much at all, I don't think apple is the fruit for it.

In my opinion they could have been better if we used normal apple and not just puree apple sauce.
My group worked really well together and I think we could work together again. 10/10 would work with them again.

    Marketing mix - Place

                                Marketing mix - place

Where are we selling our product? we don't need a specific place anywhere works.

Where would a good location be for our product? Most likely inside but its not a big issue.

Pedestrian and traffic flow? Our product will have people walking past and possibly stopping to have a quick look at our stand which will hopefully be bright.

Competition? how will our product be better ? People are definitely doing the same or similar products to us however ours will be better by having a better price for what you're getting,

How will our product strand out ? It will be bright and fit all genders and sizes.

                                            Power to the people

In Hurumanu 5 power to the people we have been looking at creating our own political party. We are in groups of around 5. We have been working on political names, logo's and slogans. In my group we have created our own logo to dedicate to our political party.

                         Different types of fats

    Business and enterprise - Price

                            Business and enterprise

    Pocket size - $2.00
    Medium - $ 3.50
    Face mask - $2.00
    Pocket size & face mask - $3.50
    Medium & face mask - $4.50
    Pocket, medium & facemask - $5.50

How did we decide what price to sell our product?
As a group we decided we could make a decent profit off our product because its a reasonable price for reusable products.

How will we ensure others the price you're asking for is worth it?
Our products are 100% reusable so people can use these all the time. We are selling them for a really good price and we even have special deals for the best prices.

What price are other people selling for the same good?
People are either selling it for the same price or more.

What else to consider with the price?
We considered a great and affordable price for people to pay. We are gonna have a wide variety of colored materials used for the masks and for the wheat sacks.

    Business and enterprise

                          Business and enterprise

In business and enterprise we were put into groups to make a product. My group is Mya, Talia, Nykachia and myself. We are making face masks and wheat sacks.

Whats they do : Our products solve 2 problems and that being when you're cold you have a wheat sack to keep you warm. The pocket sized is an even better deal by keeping your hands warm. Right now we are going through a global pandemic so our masks protect people from breathing in other people air in public.

What quality is our product : Our product is made from recycled materials that couldn't be used as there original product. We have decided this is a much more planet friendly way to reuse and recycle.

Size, volume, shape : The wheat sacks come in 2 different sizes, pocket size and medium/normal size. The face masks will be one size fits all. The wheat sacks will be rectangle or square, and the face masks is the normal shape of a mask.

Packing : Our product won't be packed in anything but it will be presented nicely on the table in front of us.

    Materials : Wheat, fabric, elastic.

What is our category : Sustainability because our product

Do we need to provide service : Yes we will be having small instructions for everyone to know how to safely use our product.

    End of life choice referendum

                   End of life choice referendum

What is it ? It it where you get injected with a medicine that helps you pass. This is a more peaceful way of dying, your family gets to be there for you last moments and you can back out last minute. This is made for people who are suffering in pain.

    What is the criteria ?

    • Be a New Zealand citizen
    • Suffer a terminal illness that is likely to kill them within 6 months
    • Have significant and ongoing decline in physical capability
    • Have unbearable pain that cannot be eased
    • be able to make a decision about assisted dying.

    Positives:
    • Die in peace
    • Its your choice
    • It stops the pain
    • You feel no pain while dying
    • People have the choice to dye and can back out at any point, even last minute

    Negatives:
    • People of all ages should be able to die this way if it is there choice
    • parents of people underage get the final choice
    • Kids under 18 would have to suffer until they die

    Potato Frittata

                               Potato frittata

We made a potato frittata. The ingredients we used were, Potato, onion, salt, pepper, cheese, peas, corn.
Sight: It didn't look very appealing to me if i'm honest.
Smell: It smelt just like egg
Taste:  I feel like we shouldn't have used that much egg because it just tasted like an omelet.
I rate this dish a 2/10 - could have been a lot better, to me this wasn't really a potato bake/frittata.
We could improve this by not adding as much egg.
Our team worked well together, we all had equal turns with every thing.

    Art - reflection

    Reflection

My main subject matter is a movie theater and nature. My photomontage is ahead and not portrait. We can  identify there is a movie theater screen, vines, butterflies, trees and more nature related surroundings. I think my photo montage is varied with things that I have added to my montage. I have enlarged some of the things in my photo montage such as the butterflies, and the vines to fit along the curtains.

My photo-montage is a flat space, it is very simple. It is more landscape, I feel like since my photo-montage is so simple people can see everything clearly and the colorful colors catch their eyes. My focal points are the colorful butterflies, and just the nature setting in a movie theater.I want the viewer’s reaction to be shocked or surprised because it's like what was on the movie theater screen is coming into the actual theater. I have added nature and a movie theater to give the effect as if it is coming into the theater.

My subject matter is separate but also together at the same time, for example: the butterflies are separated but the vines are over the curtains and the forest is over the movie theater screen.I think I work more in color than I do black and white. Color in a picture can change the whole mood and depending on the color can decide how you want the viewer to feel while looking at it.

My leading line is a movie theater. I have definitely repeated parts in my photo-montage, such as there are multiple butterflies all over the screen. It can change the way somebody views the photomontage or any other artwork.I have added nature to my main photo fragment, I have added a forest, vines, and butterflies. I feel like this makes it more realistic.

I have used quite a dark background and then added more colors over top so then objects I have added stand out a lot better. Maybe but I think every part of the photomontage is important. The idea I wanted to come out of this was, some things can be so realistic. There are butterflies flying all around the theater and on the movie screen.

There are vines growing along the curtains and a forest on the screen. I added butterflies to give more of a colorful effect.Yes , the main idea of photo montage is to add photos or images that don’t usually go together and turning them into something new. Yes, that is very important when using photomontage. Maybe that nature is beautiful. Life is a movie.

Mac and cheese - Home economics

                                Mac & cheese

Ingredients:  Macaroni, milk, cheese, corn flower, bread crumbs, onion, tomato, salt.

Skill: Roux sauce. Roux is flour and fat cooked together and used to thicken sauces. Our cheese sauce wasn't very good at all, I don't think there is anything we could have done, it was just the type of sauce.

    Evaluation:
    • Smell: It smelt alright at first it smelt cheesy.
    • Looks: It looked good and edible.
    • Taste: It tasted quite off, like off milk, but that might just be me. I feel like we could have used a different recipe next time.

Rate: I would give it a 3/10, it just wasn't very good in my opinion.

What could we do differently: Use a different recipe that is more common and not use corn flour, use normal flour. Not add tomato to it.

How did the team work together: I think our team worked fine together and there were no problems while cooking/working together.

    Cooking - Stir fry

     Stir fry

Ingredients: Broccoli, Chicken, 2 minute noodles, Carrot, Onion, Sesame oil, Salt, cabbage.

Taste: I think the group could add something different to it next time to give it more flavor,

Look's: I feel like this looked okay but my group could have made it look a bit more presentable.

    Black death

    Black death
P1) The black death is thought to have originated in Asia but then traveled to Europe in 1347. Traders in the Crimea
have been besieged for three years by Tartar hordes from Central Asia. The Black Death then spreads and goes
among the Tartars. The Tartars used their siege machines to fling the dead inside the walls of the fort. The Black
death then spreads to the people inside of the fort, after this happens the Tartars flee. The survivors that were
inside the fort set sail for Europe bringing the disease with them. People knew they had it when :
       Bubonic plague:
Situated in the groin, armpit or neck
About the size of a chicken egg
Tender and firm to the touch
Other bubonic plague signs and symptoms may include:
    • Sudden onset of fever and chills
    • Headache
    • Fatigue or malaise
    • Muscle aches

    Septicemic plague

    • Fever and chills
    • Extreme weakness
    • Abdominal pain, diarrhea and vomiting
    • Bleeding from your mouth, nose or rectum, or under your skin
    • Shock
    • Blackening and death of tissue (gangrene) in your extremities, most commonly your fingers, toes & nose

    Pneumonic plague:

    • Cough, with bloody mucus (sputum)
    • Difficulty breathing
    • Nausea and vomiting
    • High fever
    • Headache
    • Weakness
    • Chest pain
P2) Cures for the black death: This tells us that living conditions weren't the best back then, there was none if any very little personal higene. People not having good higene made it easier for them to catch the plague as nothing was clean.
They tried curing the black death by: Rubbing onions, herbs or a chopped up snake (if available) on the boils or cutting up a pigeon and rubbing it over an infected body. Drinking vinegar, eating crushed minerals, arsenic, mercury, bathe in urine, blood letting, flagellation or even ten-year-old treacle! Most of this was effective however some of it was a waste of time and wasn't as effected.

P3) Plague doctor: The plague doctor was a doctor who checked people for the

Summery - How does your brain respond to pain

What is pain? Pain is an unpleasant sensory and emotional experience associated with actual or potential tissue damage.

Summery: People feel pain in many different ways. When people feel pain sometimes it helps them work better and some people don't work better with pain. Chaos - Slam dunk

                            Slam dunk
    Here's my paragraph:
What was life like in the middle ages ? Interestingly, the person's wealth was how
they were treated. For example: The king got the best treatment, and poor people got
treated the worst. Kings and queens had loads of food to eat, and got the privilege to
shower everyday. The poor, lived on farms, did not get enough food, and hardly got to
    have a shower.
This was important because this shows how poorly they were treated.

    Everyone was not treated equally.

    Chemicals

Intro: This week we are focusing on particle theory - all around particle movement - and diffusion.

Aim: Investigate if particles defuse faster in hot or cold water.

Hypothesis: I think particles will defuse faster in hot water because they move faster when heated.

Results: The warmer one did in fact defuse faster than the cold water.

Conclusion: In conclusion my hypothesis was right and it the hot water

    Filtration Experiment

Today in hur3 we are doing our first experiment. In class today we are going to be doing a filtration experiment, this is to divide 2 things from 1 mixture and see if the big or small particles pass through the filter.

Aim: We are separating 2 things from 1 mixture.

Equipment: Beaker, funnel, conical flask, filter paper, copper sulfate, sodium carbonate solution

Hypothesis: I think that the small particles are going to pass through the filter and the big particles won't go through the filter.

Method: 1. Pour approximately 50mL of copper sulfate solution into a beaker.

    2. Add the same volume of sodium carbonate solution. A reaction will happen, you should see a cloudy blue precipitate form. Called copper carbonate.
    3. Watch demo then fold filter paper to fit inside the funnel
    4. Place the funnel with the filter paper inside of it, into the mouth of a conical flask.
    5. Stir the mixture in the beaker, then carefully pour it into the funnel.
    6. Observe what happened.

    Observations:
What did I see while making the mixture : It turned blue and then filtered clear.
What did I see when I filtered it : The chemicals mixed and it turned blue, when it was filtered it filtered clear.

P.E - Blog post for the week

                                          P.E
Tuesday: This week in p.e we chose what sport/activity's we wanted to do for that week. On Tuesday we did table tennis, juggling. In table tennis we practiced hitting the ball against the wall to get the flow of it. For juggling we 'tried' to juggle but it wasn't easy to do, for me anyway. It took quite a while for me to even do one round of juggling. I liked the table tennis the best but it was good to give juggling a go.

Wednesday: On Wednesday we chose again what activity's/sport we wanted to do. My friends and i chose just dance. We were going to do zumba but decided not to and just to do just dance. It was really fun, we hooked it up tot he big TV in the new gym. There was like 10 of us in there. I liked dancing and its actually a really good workout because you move so much.

    Business study's - Money

                                                                                Money
This week in business study's we are looking at money and why it is an advantage and what are the disadvantages of having money, I did a t-chart here it is :

Workshop 3 - Lighting and color

                                       Wonder:

Atmosphere - How you feel in a situation, mood.
    1. Scene - Auggie's first day at school - when Auggie walks into the class room everybody stares at him. When he asks to sit down Amos says the seat is saved.

Angles - Long shot/eye level, close up to Auggie to see his emotional reactions.

    Lighting + color -
Pallet - Colors used in the picture/scene e.g nature pallet.
Has colors form nature - brown and green. Warm/Cold - Warm makes you feel safe and comfortable and Cold colors make you feel clean and sterile.
    Bright - Vibrant, jumps out
Dull - Blends in, faded, muted
    Natural - Sun/moon light.
    Artificial - Man made light.
Lighting and color- Warm - makes the class room feel safe and welcoming.
    - Bright colors - Gives the room energy and life.
    - Naturally light coming through the window/blinds.

Effect on the viewer - Happy, Chilled, Exciting, Educational, Inspiring.

Director - Wants to create a happy and safe atmosphere in Mr Browns classroom. Even though it feels this way, Julian and Amos's behavior is unkind.

    Sexxxy paragraph -
In the scene of August's first day at school, lighting and color are used to create a safe and welcoming class room environment. For instants, bright warm colors are used on the walls and natural light comes through the windows to make the space look lively. This makes the audience feel excited, inspired, and that the space is educational and supportive for learning. This was done to show Mr brown had created a class room that would be welcoming space that would be welcoming to new students like Auggie. Coinciding with this is the use of body language. The children in the room are sitting up, smiling and paying lots of attention; they are learning ready. This reminds the viewer of the theme kindness because the lighting and color make the room welcoming for all students.

Business study's - New Zealand ingenuity

    New Zealand ingenuity
In class today we had to write a small paragraph on how kiwi's ingenuity benefit New Zealand as a nation, I wrote a a small summery/paragraph so here it is :

Chloe’s paragraph : How does kiwi ingenuity benefit New Zealand as a nation ?

This benefits New Zealand because we are a wealthy country because of how kiwis make/improve new inventions. Therefore more people/tourists will want to come to New Zealand, when they start to buy things it earns New Zealand a lot more money then what it would without tourists coming into New Zealand. We as kiwis are coming up with more new inventions to lure more people in/ let others see how New Zealand's ingenuity is and make them want to see New Zealand. Others can see how wealthy New Zealand is.

    What am I learning ?
I am learning to identify the purpose of camera angles, movements and shots.

This shows my learning because I have explained the shots and how they have been used effectively, also what was demonstrated in the scenes.

What am I wondering as a result of this learning ?
I am wondering if there will be a second movie explaining the aftermath of the movie. I am wondering what other shots were explored to use during filming this movie.
