Rainbow paper

Aim: To separate colours by using the process of chromatography.

Materials:
  1. Filter paper
  2. Water based felt pens.
  3. Plastic cup
  4. Water

Steps:
  1. Come and collect your sheet of filter paper.
  2. Then we had to measure a line 1 cm from the bottom of the paper.
  3. Then make two different coloured dots with felt pen on the line and get the teacher to add a very little amount of water.
  4. Then see what happens to the dots.

Conclusion:

We found out that the colours mixed together and slowly rose to the top of the paper. We also found out that the blue felt moved faster than the purple as you can see in the picture even though they went into the water at the same time. I found it interesting how they both mixed then separated. Working in a team of three was easier than by myself .

  1. Hi Chloe
Well done on completing your Rainbow Paper blog, I really like the image of the final result of your experiment. Something that you could do next time to make your science posts even better is to label each of the images that you include .
